Tech Resources at Texas A&M

Posted on 03/09/2022 12:55 PM
In the modern world, having technology resources available is just as important to a student’s success as office hours or tutoring. Texas A&M University students have access to several on-campus resources. Whether you need help purchasing the right equipment or servicing a product you already own, we’ve got you covered.

Read through the following resources to see how Texas A&M sets you up for success in the classroom.

12th Man Technology

The Official Technology Store of Texas A&M is the solution to all your technology needs. Located conveniently on the Lower Level of the Memorial Student Center, 12th Man Technology has laptops, tablets, printers, monitors, wearables and accessories for you to purchase at a competitive price. Their website even lets you search by college, so you can see the recommended equipment for your major. Upgrade your gaming set-up or read through their blog to see what’s new, all from a great spot on campus!

12th Man Technology also offers on-campus repairs from Apple-, Microsoft- and Dell-certified technicians. Instead of sending your electronics across the country or world for service, head down to the MSC to have a trained professional diagnose it. Students who purchase a device through 12th Man Technology will also be given priority service and be offered a free loaner device until theirs is up and running again.

A portion of every purchase at 12th Man Technology is donated to Texas A&M — support a local business, get a great deal and have access to high-quality service, all in one place.

Library Equipment Checkout

Students who just need a piece of equipment for a project or essay can check out a wide array of devices from the Texas A&M Library. These devices include laptops, e-readers, video cameras and DSLRs, calculators, projectors and more. Loan periods vary based on device and location, but students have access to check out a device on a Friday and keep it over the weekend. Quantities also differ, so don’t wait until it’s too late to get the device you need. Always pay attention to when the device is due back.

The Equipment Checkout service at Texas A&M is one of your best bets for finding equipment for your classes. While not a long-term solution, it’s great for students who need to film a quick video, use a calculator for an exam or are having their device serviced. Make sure to visit their website to see what devices are available and where on campus you can go to check them out!

Help Desk Central

The Division of Information Technology answers questions on computers and technology, provides informational articles and can help you if you’re in a bind. The Help Desk Central is IT’s hub for this information. It assists students via phone, email, live chat or through a web article. Areas they can help you with include internet access, software bugs, account management and cyber security concerns.

The Help Desk Central is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Its physical location is inside the Computing Services Center. At Texas A&M, you’ll have a trained IT staff on call.

The Studio

The Studio is one of the coolest and most unique resources Aggies have access to. Students will find specialized tools and software to create professional multimedia projects. You’ll also have access to expert advice and educational programming to make software like Adobe or FinalCut easier to use.

The OneButton Studio makes video editing a breeze. With just one click, the software provides professional video, audio and lighting and is customizable for more advanced users. All you need is a USB drive formatted in exFAT or FAT32 and you’ll be able to create professional looking videos by pressing a button!

Whisper Rooms are recording booths that greatly reduce the sound of external noise. Fully equipped with two Rode microphones and a 27” iMac loaded up with recording software, you can record audio for a project or start your own podcast in a Whisper Room.

The Media Lab holds several iMacs with up to 32GB of RAM and 3 TBs of storage — that’s a lot of memes! — as well as an array of multimedia software for editing, recording and more.

The Studio is open almost all day Monday through Thursday and has shortened hours on weekends. Use these resources to create multimedia presentations and impress your professors with your skills.

Printing, Scanning, Copying, Oh my!

Students are welcome to print, scan or copy using the appropriate devices at Texas A&M Libraries. Using AggiePrint, students are able to print using any email-capable device, including mobile phones and tablets. Don’t waste your money printing or copying at an expensive store off-campus — find a library on campus.

Although some professors require turning in physical copies of assignments, most professors use Canvas, the campus-wide tool to track assignments, grades, host discussions and contact your professor. Make sure you know your professor’s expectations before using up a ream of paper unnecessarily.

You can come to Texas A&M with the peace of mind that you’ll have access to purchase, service, rent or use any technology that an assignment requires. Our goal is to make sure you have the resources to ace your courses, earn your Aggie degree and get started on a successful career.
