Very Important Counselor

The Very Important Counselor program at Texas A&M University is composed of high school counselors, advisors, and college planning professionals from the State of Texas and Beyond. The program was established in 2005 to recognize high school counselors who demonstrate leadership, commitment, and excellence in their profession.

Our Advisory Council collaborates with the Office of Admissions to support both students and counselors, providing valuable insights that help strengthen our admissions and recruitment efforts to enroll high academic achieving Fightin' Texas Aggies. Advisory Council members commit to a two-year term, participating in three meetings per year, including an on-campus meeting in January-February. Members are carefully nominated and selected by the Prospective Student Center and regional staff based on their extensive experience, expertise, and active involvement in the field. In collaboration with the Office of Admissions and Texas A&M University partners, the council will:

• Cultivate strong relationships with the Office of Admissions and fellow counselors.
• Establish a network to discuss educational trends and opportunities for improving college access.
• Provide first-hand information to their school communities about initiatives that impact student success
