Highlights of Bryan-College Station

Posted on 03/16/2022 09:00 AM
Few cities in the country offer the feeling of being in a small town while having access to all the amenities you could want. That’s where Bryan-College Station differs. The home of the distinguished Texas A&M University has 200,000 year-round residents, plus almost 75,000 students from August to May.

The people in town are friendly, you’ll find several local, family-owned businesses and avoid the hustle and bustle of a large city. To dive deeper into what these two cities have to offer, we’ll explore four categories: Shopping, Entertainment, Living/Lodging and Dining.

Shopping

College Station is home to high-quality shopping districts. Post Oak Mall has several major retailers, including Dillards, H&M, American Eagle, Foot Locker, Sunglass Hut, Vans and more. Century Square offers higher end boutiques, like Lululemon, Luchesse, Kendra Scott, Grass Stains and more. An evening in Century Square will leave you decked out in some of the finest apparel around. You can find the newest and best Aggie swag at stand-alone shops like Aggieland Outfitters, Maroon U, The Warehouse @ C.C. Creations and other stores throughout the city.

Downtown Bryan is a hotspot of city events and activities, including several boutique shops with everything from antiques to cowboy hats. The Brazos Valley Farmers Market occurs every Saturday morning 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. year round — you’ll find the freshest fruit, vegetables, jams and other locally-grown food here. Bryan’s First Friday brings out local businesses selling homemade candles, jewelry, jelly, coffee, pottery and much more on the first Friday of every month.

If you’re a shopping expert or just need some weekend retail therapy, you can find a place to go in Bryan-College Station.

Entertainment

It’s important to pay attention to your grades and on-campus involvement while enrolled in college, but it’s important to enjoy these years, too. Bryan and College Station offer an exciting night (and day) life.

Texas A&M is home to the 12th Man, the most famous fanbase in collegiate sports. Cheer on the Aggie football team at Kyle Field, or head to Blue Bell Park to watch the Aggie baseball team knock home runs out of the park. Texas A&M has 17 teams that are competitive in the Southeastern Conference, meaning you’ll always have a game to go to.

If you love the outdoors, BCS offers no shortage of exciting opportunities. Visit The Cove at BearX, a unique Daycation Resort in College Station where you can float the lazy river, play backyard games and enjoy the sun! Head to Lake Bryan for a day of fishing, hiking, boating and swimming. See exotic animals at Aggieland Safari, The Serengeti of the South!

Take a walk through history at one of Bryan and College Station’s awe-inspiring museums. The George H.W. Presidential Library & Museum is one of only a few presidential libraries to be on a college campus — journey through the life and political career of the 41st President of the United States. The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History offers an exciting look at the natural and cultural history of the region. The Brazos Valley African American Museum preserves and highlights the history and heritage of African Americans in Bryan, College Station and the surrounding areas.

Bowl, mini golf, throw axes, play laser tag and more at Grand Station Entertainment. Flex your mental muscles at Escape Room BCS. Visit Midtown Park, home to recently opened BigShots Golf and future home of other exciting attractions.

The rich music and arts culture of Bryan-College Station is on display around every corner. See a live music act at Hurricane Harry’s, Lake Walk, the Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater or on Texas A&M’s campus. Downtown Bryan hosts local art and music festivals on a regular basis.

However you get your kicks, Aggieland has a fix for you.

Living and Lodging

Students looking to live off campus have no shortage of options. While Texas A&M is proud of our on-campus residence halls and apartments, we’re also proud of the options Bryan and College Station have made available to students and their families.

Bryan and South College Station have expanded recently and continue to grow, with new apartment complexes and housing subdivisions being built every year. The cost of living is up to 46% lower than cities like Austin, Houston, Baton Rouge and Fayetteville.

Family and friends looking to visit BCS can find a wide array of hotels to stay in, including the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center, located right next to historic Kyle Field in the heart of Aggieland.

Regardless of why you’re coming to the Brazos Valley, you can find a place to stay.

Dining

We all have to eat, right? And in Texas, the fixins are always good. That’s especially true in Bryan and College Station, where family-owned restaurants dominate the landscape. Downtown Bryan is home to exciting local businesses, like RX Pizza, a great place to eat some pizza and play trivia; 3rd on Main, a quick spot to grab brunch with your friends; All the King’s Men, which puts other state’s barbecue to shame.

Century Square has great dining options, too. Grab a gourmet burger at Hopdoddy Burger Bar, enjoy a fancy steak dinner at PORTERS, get some delicious coffee at Harvest Coffee and overload on carbs at Juanita’s Tex Mex Cantina.

BCS is known for its local food choices, but you’ll also find all the chains you’ve come to love, including the original Soon to be Famous Layne's Chicken Fingers and the first Texas location of Freebirds World Burrito!

Explore all of what Bryan and College Station can offer on their visitor’s sites. Now that you have an idea of how exciting Bryan-College Station is, schedule a campus visit to Texas A&M and dive deeper into why Aggieland is where you belong!
