The Aggie Network
Written by Mikee Tinsay

Imagine calling a college campus home, or entering a stadium with 102,000 of your friends, or looking down at a piece of gold on your finger with a sense of belonging. That is what it is like to be part of the Aggie Network. Students at Texas A&M University reap the benefits of the Aggie Network through scholarships, student organizations and academic excellence. As Former Students, they continue to prosper from their alma mater professionally or personally.

Aggie Ring
The Aggie Ring symbolizes the Aggie Network and connects those that bleed maroon all around the world. For many students, that shiny band embodies their achievements at Texas A&M, while Former Students believe that wearing their worn-out gold is like carrying a piece of home with them. Strangers can become friends when they recognize a fellow Aggie by the clink of their rings touching from a handshake. Ask any Aggie about their golden bling. Surely, their face will light up and a feeling of pride will follow.

Programs & Scholarships
The Aggie Spirit continues even after graduation. For some, it comes in the form of giving back. The Aggie Network funds multiple student organizations and thousands of scholarships. More than 60,730 Former Students provided $15 million of support to Texas A&M, according to the Association of Former Students. Programs that benefitted from this generosity include Career Assistance and Services, Parsons Mounted Cavalry and more. Contributions from donors are given every year without fail ─ all to support Aggies young and old.

Global Reach
Over 270 Chartered A&M Clubs cover the globe. Each location serves as an Aggie community while away from College Station. Even international A&M Clubs in Taiwan and Austria provide faraway Aggies with a forum to stay connected with Aggieland. Hundreds of Former Students and supporters join A&M Clubs year-round. As active followers of the Aggie Network, club members bolster each other, participate in their community and represent The Association and Texas A&M University as spokespersons. Other than reminiscing about their time in Aggieland, A&M Clubs also fund opportunities for future Aggies to enjoy their time at Texas A&M.

Aggies Hire Aggies
In passing, you will often hear stories of how Aggies attribute their careers to the Aggie Network. Based on data collected in May 2019 at graduation, 54% of students surveyed received offers and 24% were seeking further education. Of course, award-winning faculty and plentiful research opportunities prepare students to succeed in their careers, but it goes beyond finding a job. Many Aggies develop partnerships and client relationships based on one commonality: Texas A&M University. Whether in hiring processes or through business relationships, Aggies support one another.

Traditions
The Home of the 12th Man cultivates a rich culture full of traditions. The responsibility of keeping those traditions alive falls on the Aggie Network. Consider one of the oldest traditions at Texas A&M that occurs every year on April 21, Aggie Muster. It is famously quoted, “If there is an A&M man in one hundred miles of you, you are expected to get together, eat a little, sup a little and live over the days you spent at the A&M College of Texas.” Aggie Muster connects the Aggie Family–past, present and future. No matter where they are, Aggies will come together to answer, “Here,” in memoriam for those who are absent.

The Good Ag
Respect, Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity, Excellence and Selfless-Service make up the core values of Texas A&M University. However, these are also the same qualities to describe Aggies. There are so many stories of Aggies offering a helping hand to others in their community. In Paris, there’s a story about an Aggie helping a fellow traveler. When Hurricane Harvey struck Texas, stories of Aggies stepping up flooded the news. You can even find a Texas A&M professor celebrated for his kindness on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”. These accounts barely scratch the surface of good deeds done by Aggies, but each recollection exemplifies the best of the Aggie Network.

Being a part of the Aggie Network is more than wearing maroon and saying “Howdy!” The Aggie Network is an extension of your family. It is a family tree rooted in traditions and values, but also growing towards a better future.
