Applying for Financial Aid
There are two different applications every student should complete when pursuing financial assistance in paying for a college education – first, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and second, the TAMU Transfer Student Scholarship Application.
In order to be eligible for most forms of financial assistance, you must first submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). By completing the FAFSA, we will be able to determine your eligibility for federal, state and institutional programs such as grants, low-interest loans and/or work-study. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, or in paper format from your high school counselor, Prospective Student Centers and the Department of Student Financial Aid. There is no cost to submit the FAFSA, and it must be submitted every year. The FAFSA school code for Texas A&M University is 003632. Remember to complete all applicable sections and carefully review all information for accuracy. Although there is no deadline for submitting the FAFSA, we recommend you complete the FAFSA as described below, based on when you plan to enroll.
You can electronically sign your FAFSA by using your Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you don’t already have a PIN, you should apply for a PIN online at www.pin.ed.gov. If you are a dependent student, your parent(s) must also have a PIN to sign the FAFSA electronically. The processing of the FAFSA is expedited when both the student and parent sign the FAFSA electronically.
A Student Aid Report (SAR) is a recap of the information provided on the FAFSA and you should receive it in the mail within four weeks. If you do not, please check online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or call (800) 433-3243. If you would like to receive your SAR electronically, be sure you provide your email address on the FAFSA. You will receive your SAR electronically within a few days after your information is processed. Your email address will be shared with the schools you list on the FAFSA, so that you can receive correspondence from them as well. Texas A&M University officially corresponds with students through their assigned TAMU email account (NEO). For more information about NEO please log on to neo.tamu.edu. You may sign up for a NEO email account once you have been admitted to Texas A&M.
