Getting In

Freshmen
There are several ways to be admitted into Texas A&M as a freshman. Read carefully to see which method applies to you.
* Effective Fall 2008, freshman applicants who have selected a major in the Dwight Look College of Engineering will be required to meet a minimum math score of 550 on the SAT or a minimum math score of 24 on the ACT.
Top 10% Admits*
Applicants qualify for automatic Top 10% admission, if:
  • they attend a recognized public or private high school within the state of Texas, and
  • rank in the top 10% of their graduating class, and
  • ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.
* If you are a Texas resident in an out-of-state school you are also eligible for top 10% admission at Texas A&M University. You must submit a residency questionnaire so that your residency status may be determined. This may take a little longer, but you also will be admitted as soon as possible. Choice of major preference will be given to the top 10% and academic admission applicants who submit their admission application with all required documents by December 1, 2007.
Academic Admits
Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission, if:
  • they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, and
  • achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered, and
  • have successfully taken all recommended course work, and
  • ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.
Review Admits

If applicants do not qualify for top 10% or automatic admission, their complete application file will be reviewed. Admission for students in review is competitive. For application tips and suggestions, Click here.

Some applicants who applied for the summer or fall term and are not admitted may be offered the opportunity for additional consideration. We may offer some students the option of being placed on a wait list. If space is still available in early May, we will grant full admission to a limited number of students. In addition, some students will be given the option of consideration for the Blinn TEAM Program. This program is a collaborative effort between Texas A&M University and Blinn College located in Bryan. Students are co-enrolled at Blinn and Texas A&M University and have many of the same privileges of a Texas A&M student. They can apply for on-campus housing, join clubs, attend sporting events, use the library, rec center, etc. For more information regarding Blinn TEAM, please go to the website blinnteam.tamu.edu. There is no guarantee that these students will be given either choice. Applicants given these options must indicate their selections and submit these to the Office of Admissions by a designated deadline for consideration. Notification for both of these decisions will come in mid-June.
