Admissions Definitions
Applicants qualify for automatic Top 10% admission, if:
- they attend a recognized public or private high school within the state of Texas,
- rank in the top 10% of their graduating class, and
- ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.
If a student is a Texas resident in an out-of-state school they are also eligible for top 10% admission at Texas A&M University.
They must submit a residency questionnaire so that their residency status can be determined. This may take a little longer, but they
will be admitted as soon as possible. Choice of major preference will be given to the top 10% and academic admission applicants who
submit their admission application with all required documents by December 1, 2008.
Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission, if:
- they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class,
- Achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered
- have successfully taken all recommended minimum college preparatory course work,
- ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.
If you do not qualify for automatic admission, your complete application file will be reviewed and a decision will be made by the Admissions Selection Board. Admission for students in review is extremely competitive.
Some students who meet our minimum required course work and are not admitted may be offered the Wait List Option and/or Blinn
TEAM Option. Other students who are not admitted may choose to transfer to Texas A&M from another institution. Transfer
admission is very competitive. Students must have at least 24 hours of graded transferable course work with a minimum of 2.5
GPR for consideration. We encourage you to meet with an admissions counselor prior to registering for classes.
*Effective Fall 2008, freshman applicants who have selected a major in the Dwight Look College of Engineering will be required to
meet a minimum math score of 550 on the SAT or a minimum math score of 24 on the ACT.
